What is a free and legal IPTV list?
An IPTV list is an M3U playlist: a text file that gives the name of each channel and the address of its stream. It is legal when the streams it references are broadcast freely and for free by the channels themselves over the internet: free-to-air public channels, international news channels, music channels, free ad-supported FAST channels.
It becomes illegal as soon as it contains pay channels (sport, cinema, premium packages) rebroadcast without authorisation.

The iptv-org project on GitHub
The public repository iptv-org/iptv on GitHub is the best-known collection: it brings together thousands of publicly accessible channel streams from around the world, sorted by country, language and category, with links to programme guides. The project rejects pay channels and removes streams reported by rights holders.
- One playlist per country (for example France, Morocco or Italy);
- one playlist per language;
- one playlist per category: news, music, kids, documentaries…
The addresses of these playlists are given in the repository’s readme file. Even in a serious project, a stream can stop working overnight: these lists are maintained by volunteers, with no guarantee.
Loading a free playlist in a player
- Copy the playlist address (it usually ends in
.m3u). - In your player, choose Add M3U playlist and paste the address.
- If possible, add the programme guide address (XMLTV), see the EPG.
AICKO IPTV reads these playlists for free on Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung, iPhone, Android and Windows; you can also open them in VLC or Kodi.

Recognising a pirate list
- It offers pay channels: premium sport, cinema, satellite packages.
- It circulates in Telegram groups, forums or videos titled “free IPTV list 2027”.
- It keeps changing address to escape blocking.
- It asks you to install an unknown app or to turn off the device’s security.
These lists expose you to penalties and malware. See legal or illegal IPTV.
In short
- A free IPTV list is legal if it contains only channels broadcast freely by their publishers.
- The iptv-org repository on GitHub gathers public streams by country, language and category.
- These playlists load in any M3U player, such as AICKO IPTV, VLC or Kodi.
- A list that offers pay channels is illegal.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free and legal IPTV lists?
Yes: public playlists such as those of the iptv-org project on GitHub reference only channels broadcast for free by their publishers.
How do I load a free M3U list?
Copy its address then add it as an M3U playlist in your player, for example AICKO IPTV, VLC or Kodi.
Why do some channels in a free list not work?
Public streams often change address or are limited to one country. Volunteer-run lists offer no guarantee of availability.
Is a list with free pay sports channels legal?
No. Pay channels broadcast for free without the rights holders’ consent are illegal.
