What is Smart IPTV?
Smart IPTV is a player designed for smart TVs (Samsung, LG), Android TV and Fire TV. It supplies no channels: it displays those in an M3U playlist that you load. Its simplicity has made it a classic, but its interface and features have changed little compared with recent players.

Installing Smart IPTV
- Samsung and LG: search for the app in the television’s store; its availability has varied by country and by year.
- Android TV and Fire TV: depending on the period, the app is offered in the store or as an APK file on the publisher’s website; see installing an Android TV app.
Adding your playlist with the MAC address
- Launch the app: it displays the television’s MAC address.
- On a computer, open the playlist upload page on the publisher’s official website.
- Enter the MAC address and the address of your M3U playlist (or upload the file).
- Confirm, then restart the app on the television.
Smart IPTV is centred on the M3U format. If your provider has given you Xtream Codes access, you first need to derive the M3U address from it, see the Xtream Codes API.
Trial and activation
The app works during a trial period (generally 7 days), then asks for a one-time activation fee per television, paid on the publisher’s website. Activation is tied to the MAC address: another television needs another activation.
The limits of Smart IPTV
| Limit | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Dated interface | Less comfortable navigation in large lists |
| Mostly M3U | Xtream access has to be converted |
| Playlist entrusted to a third-party website | Your credentials pass through the publisher |
| No sync | Nothing follows you to your phone or PC |
A free alternative
AICKO IPTV is free and ad-free. It directly accepts Xtream Codes access and M3U playlists, shows the programme guide, films and series, and is set up from your phone using code pairing. It works on Samsung Tizen, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, Android and Windows, but not on LG televisions (see IPTV on an LG).
In short
- Smart IPTV is an old, simple player for smart TVs and Android TV.
- The playlist is added on the publisher’s website using the MAC address.
- After a trial period, a one-time activation per television is paid.
- AICKO IPTV is a free alternative that also reads Xtream Codes and is set up with a code.
